Lake Charles, LA — The Louisiana Housing Corporation (LHC) celebrates the grand opening of Morningside at Gerstner Place. A 117-unit project, dedicated to providing a safe, affordable, and energy-efficient place to live for those 55 years of age and older.

Morningside at Gerstner Place will offer various bedroom options to residents, which include one or two-bedroom styled units. Inside the building, seniors will have access to a fitness room, billiards, and card tables for daily activities. Gerstner Place will also feature a movie room, a library with a coffee bar, a community center, a cocktail bar, and multiple dining and seating areas for other community events. Residents are allowed certain pets as well.

"We want Louisiana senior citizens to have essential qualities as they age in place," says LHC Executive Director Kevin Delahoussaye. "We want them to have their independence, have a sense of familiarity, and comfort when they walk into senior living facilities. Morningside at Gerstner Place meets those necessities to make our seniors comfortable."

LHC awarded this project through its PRIME-2 program. Through the collaboration with the Office of Community Development, the two agencies were able to award $16.1M in CDBG funds.

Residents will also have access to their own washer and dryers, along with emergency maintenance, on-site management, and a gated-barrier to protect the residents.

"CST Multifamily Real Estate Services has worked strategically with the Louisiana Housing Corporation to expand accessibility for housing in the Lake Charles region as it strengthens its ongoing recovery," says President and CEO of CST Multifamily Real Estate Services, Tom Delahaye. “We are proud to create our award-winning apartment design and energy-efficient construction. Also, we want to recognize LHC for its vital importance in Louisiana as a champion for housing for seniors on fixed incomes and other affordable housing initiatives."
