HomeStart Ready Program

A STATEWIDE HOMEOWNERSHIP OPTION FOR FIRST-TIME AND REPEAT HOMEBUYERS

Whether you are purchasing your first home or looking for your next home, finding a mortgage that fits your financial situation is an important part of the homebuying process.

HomeStart Ready is a statewide mortgage program that provides eligible Louisiana homebuyers with a 30-year fixed-rate first mortgage to purchase an eligible home.

HomeStart Ready is available to both first-time and repeat homebuyers and does not currently provide separate LHC down payment or closing-cost assistance.

Program Details

Provides eligible homebuyers with a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage that can be used to purchase an eligible property in Louisiana.
Available statewide and for one-unit homes, two-unit homes, townhomes, and eligible condominiums. Manufactured and mobile homes are not eligible, and three- and four-unit properties are not eligible under the program.
The property must also meet applicable requirements for the selected mortgage product, including appraisal, insurance, and other property standards.

Qualifications

First-time and repeat homebuyers
Maximum qualifying income for this program is $99,000.
The maximum debt-to-income ratio is generally the lesser of 50% or the ratio permitted by the applicable automated underwriting system.
The minimum credit score is 640.
At least one occupying first-time homebuyer must complete an approved homebuyer education course. Repeat homebuyers are exempt from the homebuyer education requirement.
