November 2024—The Louisiana Housing Corporation is proud to join communities across the nation in recognizing Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month this November. As part of the ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable populations in Louisiana, LHC is raising awareness about the critical issues of homelessness and hunger in our community and across the nation.
Hunger and homelessness are widespread problems that affect many people in urban and rural areas. According to Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, 37.2 million Americans live below the poverty level and 580,000 Americans are homeless on a typical night. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, over 3,000 people in Louisiana experience Homelessness on a given night.
Throughout November, LHC will hold a special drive to help those facing homelessness. LHC and Northlake Homeless Coalition will partner to collect old books to start a library at their homeless shelter. LHC will also collect new baby and adult socks and blankets which will be donated to shelters across the state.
At all three LHC state agency locations, there will be bins for staff members and the public to drop off their donation items.
