Wednesday, 10 January 2024—The Louisiana Housing Corporation (LHC) has officially closed its application process for the Blue Tarp Roofing Repair Program after receiving an overwhelming response from the community.
The LHC launched this program as a result of an initiative by Senator Regina Barrow that was included in appropriation bills during the 2021 and 2022 regular legislative sessions. The legislature appropriated additional funds during the 2023 regular legislative session, which provided LHC the ability to expand the program statewide.
LHC has received a total of 217 Blue Tarp eligible applications and provided roof repairs for 99 homeowners to date. LHC expects to be able to serve another 75-80 homeowners, with the current available funding.
"From the initial launch of The Blue Tarp Roofing Repair Program, we saw an immediate interest and need from citizens across Louisiana," said LHC Interim-Executive Director Marjorianna Willman. "It is vital that we rebuild after a natural disaster to protect ourselves and our communities; and this program literally provided a better roof, so that our citizens are better prepared for any future storms."
