Fair Housing

The Fair Housing Act protects people from discrimination. You cannot be denied access to a home on the basis of your color, race, religion, sex, national origin, disability or familial status.

LHC Commitment

The LHC is committed to ensuring that every Louisiana resident is granted an opportunity to obtain safe, affordable, energy-efficient housing. To effectively meet its mission, the LHC must guarantee that housing opportunities are afforded to our citizens without regard to their race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or disability.

Over the last several years, the LHC has developed a renewed and fortified focus on fair housing and to ensuring the provision of fair housing throughout Louisiana. This focus has been directed at providing fair housing related services including education and outreach to all involved in the housing process – from developers to landlords to realtors and tenants and homebuyers.

Fair Housing Basics

Homebuyers, renters, housing providers, housing developers, mortgage brokers, and leasing/loaning agents will benefit from a greater understanding of the Federal Fair Housing Act and the Louisiana Fair Housing Opportunity Act, as well as from their impact on daily activities.
