LHC’s Commitment

In keeping with its mission to ensure that every Louisiana resident is granted an opportunity to obtain safe, affordable, energy-efficient housing, the LHC offers the HomeStart Assist Program.

HomeStart Assist PROGRAM

AFFORDABLE HOMEOWNERSHIP MADE MORE ACCESSIBLE

This program helps prospective homebuyers who may not have enough money to meet the down payment and closing costs. The program has interest rates that are usually at market level.

PROGRAM DETAILS

• Provides a 30-year fixed mortgage along with 4% assistance based on the original principal amount of the first mortgage
• Assistance is through a 0% interest, forgivable second mortgage that is fully forgiven after 60 months, as long as all program requirements are met.

Qualifications

• Designed for first-time homebuyers. (If you have not owned a home as your principal residence in the past 3 years). 
• Eligible household income may be up to 115% of the area median income (AMI) in non-targeted areas or up to 140% of AMI in targeted areas, depending on household size and location. 
• A minimum credit score of 640
• The completion of an approved homebuyer education course by at least one occupying borrower.
• The home must meet applicable property and loan requirements.
• Income and household eligibility requirements must be satisfied.
