Lake Charles, LA—The Louisiana Housing Corporation celebrates the grand opening of the Benoit Townhomes—a total of 78 affordable housing units built with storm resiliency features.
In the aftermath of the most recent hurricanes plaguing Southwest Louisiana, affordable housing advocates and officials turned to the Lake Charles region to provide ample housing opportunities to a recovering community.
The Benoit Townhomes will offer various bedroom style units, along with a clubhouse, business center, and fitness center. Households will also have the opportunity to enjoy outdoor amenities like a playground, barbeque grills and picnic tables, along with walkable paths situated across the 11 acres.
“Our public and private partnerships help us make affordable housing more attainable to residents in Louisiana,” said LHC Executive Director Kevin Delahoussaye. “The Benoit Townhomes will allow residents to feel at ease in their home, allowing them and their community to thrive.”
“This represents more than the opening of a new housing development, it signifies continued recovery and resilience five years after Hurricane Laura. Benoit Townhomes marks a meaningful step forward in rebuilding stronger, smarter, and more resilient communities for working families in this region,” said Louisiana Office of Community Development Executive Director Gina Campo. “The Louisiana Office of Community Development is proud to invest $13.2 million in federal disaster recovery funding through our PRIME program to support this development. This investment underscores our commitment to ensuring that recovery dollars directly strengthen housing stability and long-term resilience for Louisiana families.”
The developers of the project, Renaissance Neighborhood Development Corporation, aimed to design the townhomes that offered style and functionality. For example, each unit will include energy-efficient appliances and will also have its own washer and dryer.
“Benoit Townhomes reflects what effective disaster recovery can achieve when partners are aligned around a shared goal. By leveraging Laura and Delta recovery resources, we are delivering resilient, high-quality workforce housing in a strong Lake Charles neighborhood,” said Renaissance Neighborhood Development Corporation Executive Director Vanessa Levine. “We appreciate the leadership and collaboration of the City of Lake Charles, Calcasieu Parish, the Louisiana Housing Corporation, and the Louisiana Office of Community Development in bringing this community to life.”
Other contributing project partners included MSH Architecture, Milton J. Womack as contractor, and RNDC as the management Company.
