May 2026The Louisiana Housing Corporation (LHC) reflects on its success in creating affordable housing opportunities across Louisiana in honor of May as Affordable Housing Month.

In 2025, LHC's progress on the affordable housing front has impacted its homeownership programs, the creation of affordable and quality rental housing, and services to Louisiana's vulnerable populations in need of housing. Overall, LHC has truly become a catalyst, a coordinator, and a trusted partner in changing lives and communities across Louisiana.

Homeownership

LHC works on initiatives like down payment assistance programs and homebuyer education courses. The agency remains dedicated to expanding access to affordable homeownership opportunities statewide and reminding residents to believe in homeownership.

Homeownership 

Multifamily Housing

LHC builds for quality, sustainability and affordability, essential qualities that every Louisiana resident should have access to attain. In 2025, LHC invested $17.5M through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program (LIHTC) to fund affordable multifamily rental units.

LHC also awarded $6,371,00 through the HOME Program and $2,750,000 through the National Housing Trust Fund Program.

Disaster Recovery Housing

LHC develops targeted Disaster Recovery Programs to support communities in rebuilding and recovering in the aftermath of storms. By partnering with state and local agencies, housing professionals, and community organizations, LHC helps restore safe, affordable housing for families impacted by disaster.

LHC also provided funding to ensure the long-term viability of rental units through the Rural Rental Rehab Program. LHC awarded $10,614,264 rehabilitating a total of 236 units. Through LHC's partnership with the Louisiana Office of Community Development - Disaster Recovery, LHC funded $47,655,129 to create 288 units under the Middle Market Loan Program.

Rental Assistance

LHC's rental assistance programs support the development of safe, stable, and affordable community-based housing that ensures tenants’ rights while offering voluntary, flexible access to supportive services for individuals with very

LIHEAP, Weatherization & PBCA

LHC assists households and aids in preserving homes across Louisiana through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the Weatherization Assistance Program. Through these programs, a resident can receive assistance with upgrading efficiencies or utility payments.
