To ensure every Louisiana resident is granted an opportunity to obtain affordable, energy-efficient housing, the LHC is proud to offer Weatherization Training and BPI Testing centers.
The LHC offers seven core weatherization courses at its state-of-the-art training center. The core curriculum is comprised of 120 hours of formal, rigorous training including hands-on practice. The full course provides the basic training needed to deliver the complete scope of weatherization services in Louisiana.
The Weatherization Training Center and BPI Test Center feature hands-on learning labs including gas appliances; refrigerators, lighting and electric appliances; carbon monoxide, lead, and asbestos; wall insulation, attic insulation, and pressure diagnostics labs. The center can train up to 30 people at a time, offer classroom training and specialized field training, and provide training for administrative personnel.

Build a basic understanding of weatherization measures applied in the home. This is aimed at technicians and installers who do the physical work in the home and covers basics about building science and air and duct sealing techniques along with some information about lighting upgrades, water heater wraps and weather stripping.
This course focuses on air sealing techniques for technicians in the field and will be a two day course with one day of instruction and one day of in field work.
This course focuses on duct sealing techniques for technicians in the field and will be a two day course with one day of instruction and one day of in field work.
This course is for technicians and will instruct participants on how to conduct testing for CO, efficiency of appliances, and how to conduct CAZ testing in homes. This course is approximately 3 days in the training center with several types of water heaters and furnaces and combustion lab.
Learn how all of the systems (e.g. HVAC, insulation, appliances) affect the comfort, health, and safety of occupants and durability of the home
Perform duct leakage and blower door tests for compliance with IECC codes for new home construction or existing home remodels. Helpful for the agencies to ensure they are running tests correctly.
Apply fundamentals of Building Science and the skills needed to conduct comprehensive energy audits, including assessing whole building ventilation, measuring air flow, combustion safety, and testing/data collection.
Optimize and verify the installation, operation, maintenance, and performance of envelop systems and improve their interaction with other building systems.
This class is recommended for those that have BPI BA certification and are looking at advancing to the next level.
Ensure the quality of, and supervise, the installation and performance of prescribed energy efficiency upgrades.
Identify asthma triggers, detect risks for lead poisoning, test for carbon monoxide (CO), and more by incorporating healthy home measures into home performance assessments.
Master the evaluation of the home’s performance, including using more advanced diagnostic equipment and modeling software.
Verify compliance of retrofit work performed based on work plans and standards. Conduct audits and inspections using diagnostic equipment to develop reports specifying corrective actions to achieve whole house performance.
