In keeping with its mission to ensure that every Louisiana resident is granted an opportunity to obtain safe, affordable, energy-efficient housing, the LHC offers information on the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP).

Program Overview

Household income determines the minimum requirements for weatherization assistance. Availability of WAP is not guaranteed.

Additional waiting list points are given to the following groups:

LHC-Weatherization-Elderly  Elderly: 
60 years of age and older

LHC-Weatherization-Families  Families: 

       With children 17 years of age and under 

LHC-Weatherization-Disabled  Disabled: 
One whose disability has been established in accordance with the Title XXVI of the Social Security Act for the SSI Program.

    LHC-Weatherization-Energy  High Residential Energy Users: 
And households with a high energy burden

Information needed to apply

  • Last four consecutive copies of check stubs for all employed household members 18 years of age or older
  • Proof of unearned income (Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, Pension Funds, Disability, etc.)
  • Proof of present address (rent receipt, lease or deed, etc.)
  • A copy of a current gas, electric or propane bill
  • Must have valid driver’s license or picture ID of all household member 18 years of age or older
  • A copy of Social Security cards for all household members
  • Additional information may be required to determine your eligibility for weatherization assistance
